Finding a Camping Spot

Finding a Camping Spot

There’s thousands of campgrounds you’ve never heard of, and neither have most people. In this post we explain how to find some of those hidden gems!

The United States offers thousands and thousands of amazing camp grounds but most of them are not well documented. Most of the well known camping spots can be found on recreation.gov which offers booking services for all of the national park service camp grounds and many others.

But did you know there are thousands of miles of BLM and Forest Service roads with many amazing less populated camp grounds all over the USA? Many of these can be found on the BLM and FS websites but those can be hard to manage and lack information about the camp grounds.

We’ve found two sites that we use on all of our adventures.

Both of these sites allow you to search in an area for free or cheap camp grounds and will list most of the BLM and FS camp sites. Once you click on a site it will give you some basic information along with reviews of the camp grounds.

Once you find a camp ground that you think is suitable we also recommend doing a quick google search just to make sure it’s not been closed.
